You may have seen a video of Andy Rowell singing “Tequila” at a karaoke bar that went viral across Vine (RIP) and YouTube. That performance has racked up close to 4 million views, with Rowell standing awkwardly on stage waiting for the song to end. But you may not have expected him to bring that same act to a TV stage for an audition on America’s Got Talent — and get through.
But Rowell’s unique choice of songs wowed judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Julianne Hough, and Gabrielle Union and sent him through to the next round. That’s even though some fans at home felt that his performance was totally ripped off from late comedian Andy Kaufman’s famed Mighty Mouse bit.
