The song “Chicken Fried” was written by Zac Brown and Joe Galante, who co-produced the single with the band. It was recorded and released as a single in 2003 on the album Home Grown and was a No. 1 hit on the country music chart. Brown credited the song’s success with the band’s meeting with producer Keith Stegall at Nashville’s 3rd and Lindsley, who spotted them performing in an open bar and invited them to a recording session.
During the recording session for Chicken Fried, guitarist Coy Bowles reacquainted with the band, which led to his invitation for them to sit in on his gig with his group, The Fellowship. The band agreed, and Brown also invited the Fellowship to perform at his concert a few weeks later.
